Jalen Smith is 25, works as a tradie and until recently had nothing to do with boxing. Now he is training to step into the ring in front of a crowd. But this is not about money or clout. There is a reason behind it that goes back a few years.

A loss that turned into fuel

It all goes back to 2021, when his mum passed away after being diagnosed with melanoma. It hit hard and shook the whole family. But it did not stop there.

The following year, his dad stepped into the Corporate Rumble to raise money, turning that loss into something with purpose. What could have stayed as just grief started shifting into something else. That is what led Jalen to follow the same path. Now, five years on, he is stepping into the ring himself.

He is stepping in to honour his mum… and be part of something that gives back.

From tools to the ring

Over time, more people close to him got involved. What started as a one off became something that kept going. A way to deal with tough moments without just sitting in them, and actually doing something that gives back.

Now Jalen is deep in training, pushing through a routine that is nothing like site life. Long days, heavy sessions, getting hit, running on fumes. All of it leading up to a fight that is not really about winning.

It is about why he is stepping in there in the first place.

Fighting for his mum… and for those still in it

Corporate Rumble raises money for the Saba Rose Button Foundation. supporting kids dealing with serious medical conditions.

That is where this really lands. Because this is not just about stepping into a ring and throwing punches. It is about showing up for people who are still going through it right now.

Between the tools, the training and everything else, there is a clear reason behind it.

He is not just fighting for himself. He is fighting for something bigger than that.
